Starts in San Carlos de Bariloche and ends in Ushuaia - Duration: 15 days

This is our great classic and probably one of the most popular tours of South America. Let us show you the magic of Patagonia, its mountains, lakes and plains stretching as far as the eye can see, the fjords of Chile's Pacific coast, the hot springs at Puyuhuapi, the Perito Moreno glacier and the unbelievable landscapes of the Torres del Paine National Park. Arriving by motorcycle in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, generates a lot of overwhelming feelings and is an adventure of its own.

Day 1: Arrival in Bariloche Paperwork and bike allocation followed by a few hour’s ride around the Circuito Chico to familiarise yourselves with the bikes and to enjoy some of the best lake and mountain views around Bariloche. Evening meal at a local parrilla restaurant and debriefing in preparation for the start south tomorrow.

Day 2: Bariloche - Trevelín - Riding distance: 310 km From Bariloche we head south via the pretty market town El Bolsón and the dazzling lakes of the Alerces National Park to the Welsh town of Trevelín where the Celtic heritage very much alive.

Day 3: Trevelín - Puyuhuapi (Chile) – Riding distance: 240 km Into Chile via Futaleufú and joining the Carretera Austral south - a great road through the valleys with stunning views. A warm welcome awaits us at this German-style hostería, situated at the head of a Pacific fjord.

Day 4: Puyuhuapi – Coyhaique - Riding distance: 235 km A morning visit to the Termas del Ventisquero south of Puyuhaupi to have a dip in the hot springs, then following south on the Carretera Austral… to the town of Coyhaique, regional capital and one of Chile’s main agricultural centres.

Day 5: Coyhaique – Puerto Guadal – Riding distance: 275 km To the western shore of Lake General Carrera taking in the most picturesque part of the Southern Highway. A midday stop at Puerto Río Tranquilo to visit the extraordinary lake rock formations of the Capillas de Mármol (1 hour boat trip).

Day 6: Puerto Guadal (Chile) - Estancia Río Capitán (Argentina) – Riding distance: 485 km We follow the southern lake shore 115 kms to the Customs post at Chile Chico, through Los Antiguos to the town of Perito Moreno where we rejoin the Route 40 south.

Day 7: Estancia Río Capitán A day to rest, enjoy the tranquillity of the estancia or head for hills to try your hand at line fishing in a mountain lagoon to catch your supper! The trout are worth it.

Day 8: Río Capitán - El Calafate - Riding distance: 475 km Rejoining the Route 40, we head south to the tourist hub of El Calafate. Stop for refreshments (excellent homemade cakes) at La Leona, a traditional roadside estancia and you can try your hand at the gaucho drinking game, trying to loop a hoop on a nail in the wall.

Day 9: El Calafate – Riding distance: 160 km We have various possibilities to visit the World Heritage Site of the Perito Moreno glacier with its 60 metre high ice wall, located about 100 km from the centre of El Calafate. Once we're in the National Park, we can choose between a two hour boat trip to view the ice wall from the water, a half-day ice trek on the glacier (crampons provided) or a full day boat trip to visit the different glaciers in the area. Whatever option you choose, it will be unforgettable.

Day 10: El Calafate - Torres del Paine National Park (Chile) – Riding distance: 300 km Retracing our steps to the east, we continue down the Route 40 before turning west towards the mountains and the remote customs post at Cancha Cerrada. We skirt the southern shore of Lago del Toro and you will catch your first close-up of the granite spikes of the Torres del Paine that give the park its name.

Day 11: Torres del Paine National Park Free day to visit the Torres del Paine National Park. Suggested programmes could include horse trekking or a Zodiac trip on the river. Or just enjoy the views from the hosteria, a pisco sour in hand, and get the batteries charged for tomorrow’s ride!

Day 12: Torres del Paine (Chile) - Río Grande (Argentina) – Riding distance: 646 km
An early start for this leg of the journey. Via the ferry across the 1ª Angostura of the Magellan Straits on to the Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego and down the Atlantic Coast.

Day 13: Río Grande - Ushuaia - 222 km Arriving in Ushuaia at around midday, after lunch, we will ride into the Tierra del Fuego National Park to Lapataia, the end of Route 3 and literally the end of the road.

Day 14: Ushuaia
Morning visit to the town centre for souvenir hunting and lunch. The afternoon is free to take one of the boat trips on the Beagle Channel to visit the penguin and sea lion colonies as well as the lighthouse ‘Les Eclaireurs’. The evening farewell dinner will give you a taste of Ushuaia’s speciality dish: the centolla or King Crab.

Day 15: Transfer to Ushuaia airport and fly out
